Zurich reports strong growth in life protection as demand for family insurance rises
The global insurer saw protection premiums jump 10% in the first half of 2026, with UK and European markets leading growth as families seek to protect their dependents.
Zurich Insurance reported strong first-half results driven by accelerating demand for life protection across key markets including the UK, Europe and beyond. Protection premiums jumped 10% to reach USD 5.9 billion, with Zurich's Life division delivering record earnings as margins expanded significantly.
The global insurer attributed growth to rising demand for insurance solutions that protect families and employees. Corporate life and pensions showed particularly strong performance as large employers sought to protect their workforces, whilst the company also invested in strengthening its ability to serve small and medium-sized businesses with tailored protection products.
Unit-linked insurance volumes, where customers can combine investment growth with protection, also expanded strongly, particularly in Ireland, Italy and Japan. Life business operating profit surged 23% to USD 1.3 billion, prompting Zurich to upgrade its full-year guidance for life division growth to at least 10%, compared with the earlier forecast of mid-single digit growth.
